The fanlisting, Change the World, was opened in the summer of 2001-ish, and Kikyou used to have to beg her friends to join so it wouldn't look like Inuyasha wasn't a popular series. This was right around the time that The Fanlistings was just really getting popular (hence the fact that Kikyou somehow got both Inuyasha and Ranma 1/2 series fanlists). Now, there are over 10,000 members and if Kikyou doesn't update every week she usually end up with a back log of 200 pending members.
Anyway! What is a fanlisting? A fanlisting is simply a list of fans for a given subject, person, item, song, etc. Like mentioned on the the main page, this is not a fan club, per se, as it doesn't cost anything to join and you don't get things mailed out to you. Kikyou is generally to busy to honor requests for graphics, videos, and music, so please don't even ask.
Inuyasha is literally a Feudal Fairytale. Kagome is your average 15 year-old student living in Tokyo. She strives to do well in school, hangs out with her friends, enjoys her family's company. Sounds pretty normal, eh? One day, upon going go fetch her cat, Kagome falls into the Bone-Eater's well of her family shrine, and is teleported back to the feudalistic "warring states" period of Japan! Confused and lost, Kagome wanders through the Forest of Inuyasha, where she finds a strange boy with dog ears pinned to the tree by a single arrow.
This half-dog demon is Inuyasha, who had been trapped their by the priestess Kikyou in order to prevent him from stealing the extremely powerful jewel, the Shikon no Tama. (which would turn him into a full demon) Kikyou dies, having sustained wounds from Inuyasha (or was it...? >D), and ordered her younger sister Kaede to have the Shikon no Tama cremated with her body. Later, it is discovered that Kagome is the reincarnation of Kikyou, with the jewel inside of her.
In order to fight the youkai that had sensed the jewel in Kagome, Inuyasha is freed from his prison, and proceeds to shred the youkai apart with his claws. To make a long story short, the Shikon no Tama is splintered into hundreds of shards (which was actually Kagome's fault ^^;), and Inuyasha and Kagome, along with the friends they pick up along the way, set off on a long journey to recover them... before the youkai do.
And that's all Kikyou is going to tell you! Inuyasha is now 30+ volumes and still runs in Japan; if you like to catch some episodes head on over to Adult Swim's page, Scanlations of current chapters can be found here, and plain text translations here!
Rumiko Takahashi was born in Niigata, Japan on October 10, 1957. She was a student at the Woman's College of Tokyo, and in 1978, she won an award in Shogakukan's "New Comic Artist Contest." Takahashi-san is one of the most recognizable and successful manga artists of our time. With hits such as Ranma 1/2 (whose 34 volumes sold over a hundred million copies O_O) and Maison Ikkoku, it seems like whatever she touches turns to gold.
